Fethiye is a fishing port 20 minutes from Villa Taurus. It is an attractive town around a harbour with traditional Turkish sailing boats (gulets) which can be hired by the day, or for longer. There are lovely drives around the coast to further bays, with beautiful views across the Gulf of Gocek and all its islands which can easily be visited by boat.
It is also possible from May to end September to go by hydrofoil to Rhodes (Greece) for a day or longer!
There are many activities here: scuba diving, fishing, island-hopping, not to mention Fethiye's long and fascinating history with rock tombs above the town begging to be visited, particularly at sundown. Nearby you can paraglide, waterski, go on jeep or quadbike safaris.
Fethiye has a good complement of interesting shops, particularly for kilims and leather. It has a regular Tuesday market, a permanent fish and vegetable market (where you can buy fish and have it cooked on site), an old town, plus restaurants lining the harbour. It has of course all the essential shops that you need on holiday, and a range of good hospital facilities (state and private) for peace of mind. Many people speak sufficient English and Turkish people are wonderfully kind and helpful.
The Fethiye area has a superb dry climate - consistently warm to hot from April to end October. Many say that there are only two real seasons: spring and summer.
